This weekend Transition were in Kaohsiung in order to play two concerts, one on Friday evening and another on Saturday afternoon. The first was in an army training centre where people who's homes were destroyed in typhoon Marakot are now living.
In some ways it was a privilege to be able to go there to play music for them, in another way it felt like the concert might not have been the kind of thing those people need. My favourite part was not playing actually, it was having some time after the whole thing finished to be able to chat with some of the children who were there. In fact, one boy there just came up to me and gave me a can of tea. I know that's just a can, but imagine if your home had been destroyed and you'd lost everything from your house (probably knowing some friends or relatives who'd been killed too) but you still have the attitude to give to someone who looks like a guest/stranger.
I was really touched by the way that the young boy could keep something of a generosity in his character, despite losing what some people would consider to be 'everything'.
The least I could do was chase after him (he was on a bike with someone sitting on the back flying a kite) and give him one of our cd's, I hope he enjoys it :).
Apart from that, staying with Diana's family was cool as always. I think that 中山大學 is becoming my favourite place in 高雄!
There's something about the sea that is impossible to describe. Maybe it's to do with the sea being so vast, to do with not being able to see the other side, it speaks of something beyond, of something more...
我覺得有時間去看海is good for the soul.
好,我再想一下要不要讓人知道我有blog, 或許我開另外一個寫Transition的事?
希望幾個看我blog的朋友會喜歡。
