Look back, look forward?

Do you ever find yourself thinking back to some great times and wishing you could be there again to live it again?
Or do you prefer to forget what has gone before, let it go and look towards something better, work towards a dream that needs to be chased?

Actually daydreaming is quite fun, but there is something interesting about where we come from and where we're heading in life. These two things don't always correlate, but if there is a way of finding strength and encouragement from past experience, that can provide confidence for building a future then it's a good thing.

So let's try to leave behind what's unnecessary and be inspired by what's gone before and build a future that learns from the past, is inspired and encouraged by the past, but reaches further on for something fresh.

Trip to the Forbidden Country

Well, the past month has been quite a whirlwind of changing worlds.

So for a part business, part fun trip, I think it was quite a success. Perhaps Transition will go back early next year for a festival, a few other concerts and to release an album, although many things are yet to be planned and prepared for.
I also had the privilege to see many places that I'd only ever seen on tv before. In fact, going to the forbidden city was quite stunning, you can really imagine the emperor and the armies there (having seen so many films of that).

The actual forbidden city was such an amazing place, then it was fascinating to visit the national palace museum in Taipei and see everything that used to be in the forbidden city in Beijing. In fact, looking at lots of Ming Dynasty pottery reminded me of things I'd seen in museums in England (I guess the British stole some of most things from most cultures during the height of the empire).

History really is stranger than fiction.

Home

This month's excuse for not writing any blog entries is the moving around the global village excuse again. I've returned to my home country of England for about a month (half of which has gone already) in order to remember who I am and where I come from.
Actually of course not, the reason is just to see family, friends and sort out a whole load of not so interesting things (tax receipts, new passport, driver's licence etc).

It is a bit of a strange feeling though, coming back to a place that's so familiar, having been away for some time (in my case about a year). Some things are exactly the same, some things are totally different and every person has moved on in life in some way (that doesn't come across via email or phone).

Well, despite a mix of emotions it's been nice to be back and timing was such that I was able to see some of Bristol's Harbour Festival last weekend!
